Physical Properties of Sandcrete-Laterite Blocks

The incorporation of laterite in sandcrete blocks production is a common commercial practice Nigeria. However, proper calibrations as per optimal mix proportions these aggregates to give that meet minimum requirements by various standards are lacking. In this study, ratio 1:8 (cement: aggregates) and water-cement 0.5 was adopted at different percentages replacing sand. Block sizes 450 x 225 150mm were used. Curing done for 3, 7, 14, 28 days. A total 104 prepared tested density, compressive strength, static modulus, water absorption thermal conductivity. Results showed decrease strength conductivity values with the addition laterite. On other hand, sandcrete-laterite increased, became more permeable. indicates better insulating properties Sandcrete-Laterite Blocks. These will, therefore, reduce energy building. study recommends an replacement level 10% sand which gave 1.87N/mm2 6.9% greater than requirement 1.75N/mm2 Nigerian Building Code individual blocks.
